Jalisa Clark, a merchandising intern here at 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, has learned a lot from her summer internship. Hear her summer internship story in her own words:

Merchandising Intern Jalisa Clark

“Over the course of my first year at Dartmouth College I had drastically changed my major numerous times. I began with an interest in Biology Engineering, to Studio Design, to Anthropology and ending last semester with an interest in Business.  My kind and extremely patient college advisor suggested I spend my summer experiencing one of the fields of my interest. When I was accepted as a Gifts Merchandising intern for 1-800-FLOWERS.COM, I knew that I would receive exclusive hands on experience. As an intern for the gifts department I am working on various data and vendor-focused projects, ordering product samples and attend meetings with the SVP of Merchandising, Product Development & Photography. During my time this summer, my mentors have made me feel not only appreciated but also as a “true” member of the 1-800-FLOWERS.COM team.

What I will take away the most from this internship is the way in which that 1-800-FLOWERS.COM team operates.  Beyond the success in numbers, price points, and gross margins, I have witnessed the success of great communication, teamwork, and a comfortable atmosphere. This summer has been a great learning experience, and I couldn’t be prouder of the work that I have accomplished with the guidance of my supportive mentors.  Odds are I will probably change my major once or twice next term, but at least now I know the work environment I aspire to be a part of.”
